ADU HND Students Participate in Clinical Simulation at SSMC
On January 10, 2025, Higher National Diploma (HND) students from Abu Dhabi University’s College of Health Sciences
engaged in a clinical simulation session at Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City (SSMC). The session provided hands-on
experience in a controlled, high-fidelity environment, allowing students to apply theoretical knowledge to practical
scenarios. This initiative aimed to enhance clinical decision-making skills and prepare students for real-world healthcare
settings. The collaboration between ADU and SSMC underscores a commitment to experiential learning and the
development of competent healthcare professionals.
ADU Hosts Expert Talk on Infectious Disease Risks During Mass Gatherings
On January 28, 2025, the College of Health Sciences at Abu Dhabi University hosted an expert talk titled “Mass
Gatherings and Infectious Diseases: Global Surveillance Perspectives and Strategies to Defuse a Ticking Public Health
Time Bomb.” The session featured Prof. Ziad Memish from Al Faisal University and King Salman Humanitarian Aid &
Relief Center, with Dr. Afsheen Raza serving as moderator. The talk addressed public health risks linked to major global
events such as the Hajj, Rio Olympics, and FIFA World Cup. Topics included the spread of infectious diseases like MERS
and Zika, antimicrobial resistance, and the growing burden of non-communicable diseases. The discussion highlighted
the importance of surveillance systems, vaccination strategies, crowd management, and infrastructure improvements
in maintaining global health security.
