High School Talk on Gene Therapy and CRISPR
The Biomedical Sciences Department at Abu Dhabi University organized an educational session titled “Rewriting the
Code of Life,” led by Dr. Asmaa Abu Obaid on 28th January 2025, as part of its student recruitment activities. The
session introduced high school students to the latest advancements in gene therapy and CRISPR technology. Key
topics included the mechanism of CRISPR gene editing, its real-world applications in treating genetic diseases and
cancer, and the ethical considerations surrounding its use. The event aimed to inspire future scientists by providing
insights into cutting-edge tools shaping modern medicine.
Emirates Society of Ophthalmology Conference 2025 (ESO 2025) on Eye Health in
the MENA Region
Dr. Nisreen Alwan participated as a speaker in the Optometry Session at the ESO 2025 Conference, held from 7 - 9
February 2025 at Hilton Abu Dhabi Yas Island. The session, moderated by Yasmin El-Rouby, focused on enhancing eye
health in the MENA region through community engagement, school assessments, and comprehensive eyecare. Dr.
Alwan joined other regional and international experts to discuss strategies for improving vision health and access to
eye care across diverse communities.
