Social media continuously feeds our
minds with lies, while diverting our atten-
tion away from our lives. In fact, it has
changed who we are as individuals, nor-
malized toxicity, spread low self-esteem,
and reduced our attention spans. It has
created a society that yearns for instant
gratification rather than putting in the
effort and celebrating afterwards. If you
truly give it some thought, is social media
worthwhile at all?
Although we have encountered pleasant
experiences on social media, it is import-
ant to remember that it is both a blessing
and a curse.
Personally, I can say that my daily rou-
tines have shifted dramatically due to the
extensive use of social media. As much as
I hate to admit this, it has reached a point
where I sometimes find myself staying in
bed all day and scrolling through social
media without doing anything productive.
Even though we are all aware that such
habits are unhealthy, we unconsciously
push that thought away and continue to
seek quick and effortless entertainment.
Often, we easily lose ourselves in the
moment and forget about what is enor-
mously important. Life is becoming dull
because of the dark side of social media;
in fact, it is losing its essence. Thankfully,
we can set several boundaries for our-
selves to prevent this from escalating any
further.
Social media will continue to control and
manipulate us unless we make a change.
We could either remain imprisoned, or
we could step out of the suffocating cell.
It is not locked, but we might be too pre-
occupied to notice.
