              WRITTEN BY MR. MUHAMMAD FAROOQ
                      (SENIOR INSTRUCTOR OF
                           MATHEMATICS)

                    ost students dislike math because

they think it is useless. They assume
M all the numbers and formulas they
study will never be applied in their daily lives.
Those numbers and formulas don’t excite them
the way they get excited about history, science,

languages, or other subjects which are easier to
personally connect to. Students often see math
as a study of abstract and irrelevant figures that
         are tough to understand.

But the truth is that we use math all the time!
It is pertinent to note how one experiences
mathematical applications in daily lives from
the time one gets up from bed till one goes back
to bed. Be it a cook or a farmer, a carpenter or
a mechanic, a medical doctor or a scientist, an
artist or a tailor, every person needs mathemat-

         ics in daily life.

Here I would like to highlight one of the very
important and interesting applications of math-
ematics about which people are rarely aware of.
I would like to draw the attention of the read-
ers to a frequently used statement which has
