Reflections

ASC has an excellent program which is beneficial for the tutors as well as the
tutees. For me, being a Course Assistant is a great experience, as it has improved
my communication skills as well as increased my self-confidence. I have grown a
lot by helping other students. Tutoring is great because you can really help other
students to become academically successful. Last semester, after our final results
were announced, many girls came to me and thanked me for helping them which
made me feel really satisfied. I am grateful to the Academic Success Center for
having me as a Course Assistant.

AA - Course Assistant

I believe that, teaching is the best way to improve and implement our knowledge.
I have been a Course Assistant at the ASC for a year now. I have had a wonderful
time working with my fellow tutors. Helping my peers with their courses have been
a satisfying journey for them and for me too. Since the Academic Success Center
provides a quiet and peaceful environment most students go there to do their
projects, assessments, to study for upcoming exams, etc. The Center also conducts
fun events for the students in order to reduce their stress. Last fall, I helped to
organize and implement a freshmen refresher program, full of games, music,
food and fun, which was very successful. Not only did the freshmen students who
attended have a lot of fun, but I was able to build event planning and managing
skills as well.

Words cannot express how happy I am while teaching my friends at the Academic
Success Center. As I have always dreamt of being a teacher, my dream has come
true to teach my favorite subject which is Math. At the beginning, I thought that
this job will affect my academic performance because I will be under pressure.
However, I was wrong. Working at the ASC became the favorite part of my day.
Besides teaching, it allows me to make new friends from different backgrounds. I
also learnt how to explain the same question in different ways. Additionally, I feel
comfortable in teaching a subject while I am currently taking it. It increases and
deepens my understanding of the subject. While teaching, when I have a difficulty,
I refer to the text book and E-book for information. ASC helps improve my skills in
presentation, communication, explanation, clarification, convincing, and above all
Sara Herzallah my self-confidence. My best moment in the whole journey is when I receive calls
AD - Course Assistant from my tutees telling me of their good performance. Winston Churchill said that
“Attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference”, and I believed in his quote.
Overall, I am very happy with my experience at the ASC, and I wish to continue
working as long as I can.
