How we got our
Peer Mentors ready
Prof. Dr. Ghanem J. Al Bustami, PhD. Ed. Psychology and Development was gracious enough
to conduct a virtual orientation for our forty-nine peer mentors on leadership, a quality they
need to embody to be to be effective mentors for freshmen students.
The one-hour session on Oct 8th from 12: 00 – 1: 00 pm really helped students understand
the key factors of being a strong leader. Peer Mentors are vested with the responsibility of
being a strong support system for freshmen students academically and mentally. Freshmen
students are encouraged to approach the peer mentors with any concerns they have regarding
university life and how to cope with them. Hence, we wanted to offer our Peer Mentors a
session that would enlighten them with practical pointers they could exercise in their roles
from an expert like Dr. Ghanem. It was indeed a great success!
