From Campus to Career: Navigating
the Path to Success with
Maha Yasser Al Marqab
I am Maha Yasser Al Marqab, a graduate with a degree in Media from Abu Dhabi University,
currently working as a news presenter reporter at Abu Dhabi Media Network, News Center.
I graduated from the university in 2021 with a GPA of 3.88, with Second Class Honours.
How Did You Turn Your University Experience into a Career Opportunity?
Throughout my university journey, I built relationships with academic
advisors and course instructors. I also sought to develop my media talent
by participating in scientific, cultural, and official conferences and events.
Additionally, I participated in a media talents program, which brought to-
gether media students from various universities. I was nominated by my
university to participate in the program, where I trained at Abu Dhabi
Media Network for three months as part of my field training. During this
time, I proved myself and applied my media skills in training. I also estab-
lished strong relationships within the company, inquiring about work-
flow procedures, understanding and actively participating in them. Out
of 60 students, I was selected after five months for an internship at
the company. After a month of training, I was offered a job con-
tract, which I officially signed on August 7, 2023.
What advice do you have for current students in terms of
making the most of their time at ADU and preparing for life
after graduation?
I offer students an important piece of advice in their
academic field at university: Utilize all your skills related
to your specialization and undergo practical training at a
strong company that helps you invest in your talents and
capabilities in the field. A healthy work environment is
essential, and practical training is the best opportunity
to showcase your skills and efficiency in the workplace.
Can you share any challenges or obstacles you
faced after graduating and how you overcome
them?
You will face many challenges in your academic and
professional journey. In reality, no one will help you
face these challenges except yourself. You are the
only one who knows your capabilities, talents, and the
challenges you will encounter. One of the challenges is
adapting to the work environment at the beginning of
your professional journey and stepping out of your
comfort zone. Being an employee is different from being a university student. In your job, you are
entrusted with tasks that you must complete in the best and shortest possible way. You will also deal
with different mentalities, ages, and some of them may not resonate with you. You must work objec-
tively and develop your social intelligence to cope with changes and challenges, especially the social
ones you will often encounter when transitioning from university to the workplace.
