Dr. Hatem
Abushammala on
Transforming Waste
into Environmental
Treasures
Dr. Hatem Abushammala is an Associate Professor of
Environmental Health and Safety and the Al-Ain Coordinator of the
College of Health Sciences. Before joining Abu Dhabi University in 2020,
he was the Wilhelm-Klauditz Fellow at the Fraunhofer Institute in
Germany. His research work focuses on the green conversion of waste
(paper, plastic, and agricultural) into high-value materials and energy for
a wide range of environmental and technological applications. He has
three US patents and several research publications on the development

of sustainable materials and processes.
