Curiosity has sparked human creativity and prosperity for
millennia. You may recognize many of the following people
who put their curiosity to good use, but let’s take a trip down
memory lane and catch up with them.
Archimedes
c. 287 BC — c. 212 BC
A Greek engineer who is regarded as the
greatest mathematician of antiquity. He is
renowned as the “Father of Mathematics”
and is credited with a lot of advances that
are still used today (such as the Archimedes
screw). Archimedes is supposed to have loved
teasing other mathematicians by providing
them the answer to a difficult issue but not
explaining how he arrived at it. He encour-
aged inquisitiveness among his nobles.
