so clear and perfect!” she gushed before grabbing
her mobile phone from the side table and opening
the beauty store app.
“It’s a little expensive,” Maryam thought. She
played with her fingers before tapping on the
“buy” icon and then looked up at the ongoing ad.
“I still remember how people looked at Ayesha
when she showed up for the party last time, and I
need to look as beautiful as her,” she muttered to
herself before changing the channel.

“I don’t understand! What’s wrong with my
skin?” Ayesha bent more towards the mirror in
her hand and examined her face. “Why is my skin
breaking down?” she rubbed at her face gently,
which now looked a little broken and darkened.
“What happened to your face now, Ayesha?” her
mother asked from the kitchen. “Mum! It’s break-
ing down. But I don’t understand why. I’m using
the best product available,” Ayesha exclaimed,
disbelief evident in her voice.
