About
the College
The College of Health Sciences at Abu Dhabi University was established in 2018 in response to the
growing need for healthcare professionals with advanced knowledge and practice skills in various
health sciences disciplines in the UAE and region. The College offers five undergraduate programs
under the broad umbrella of ‘allied health professions’. The collective educational mission of the
health sciences programs is to produce graduates who are: equipped with both the theoretical and
practical scientific and technical knowledge to analyze and evaluate; able to communicate directly with
patients, their families, and fellow healthcare professionals; prepared to excel in a career in the field
of healthcare; able to understand societal health issues; and ready to lead in the field of medicine and
health sciences, supporting the ambitions of the UAE to become a world-class healthcare provider and
medical research hub. The programs are delivered in modern, well-equipped facilities and state-of-the-
art teaching laboratories. We expect to offer additional undergraduate and postgraduate studies soon.
Programs
The College of Health Sciences offers five undergraduate programs under two departments:
The Department of Environmental and Public Health
• B.Sc. in Public Health
• B.Sc. Environmental Health and Safety
The Department of Biomedical Sciences
• B.Sc. Molecular and Medical Genetics
• B.Sc. Laboratory Medicine
• B.Sc. Human Nutrition and Dietetics
The programs are accredited by Commission for Academic Accreditation (CAA, UAE). The Biomedical
Sciences programs are currently only offered in Abu Dhabi. The Environmental and Public Health
programs are offered in both Abu Dhabi and Al-Ain campuses. Each program is delivered through
an innovative and dynamic curriculum that is continuously reviewed and improved. All programs
are competency-based and are aligned with the UAE National Qualification Framework and relevant
international accreditation standards.
The curricula use diverse teaching methods and course delivery approaches. Experimental and
experiential education are incorporated into the curricula and are essential learning components that
will help students develop soft and clinical skills, preparing them for their professional experience.
Students benefit from well-structured, supervised internships and practicum placements in renowned
university hospitals, medical centers, industry-based organizations and companies, and public health
organizations. In addition, students are familiarized with the different steps of conducting research,
developing research skills through being exposed to a range of research opportunities across courses
and through the capstone project and undergraduate research course. The B.Sc. in Public Health is
one of the few programs that offer a public health degree at the undergraduate level nationally and
regionally and is accredited by Agency for Public Health Education Accreditation (APHEA), a prestigious
European accreditation agency.
