OVERCOMING OBSTACLES
Although Mona had excelled academically in high school, her freshman year of college presented some
unanticipated difficulties. She struggled to keep up with the demanding curriculum and high standards.
Despite her best efforts, she was given grades that were below average. At first, she was completely
discouraged; however, when she asked lecturers and academic counselors for advice, they assisted her in
acquiring efficient study techniques and time management skills.
Mona also found comfort in a group for students who are struggling academically themselves. She steadily
raised her grades and reclaimed her confidence with tenacity and dedication. Through her experiences,
Mona learned the value of resilience and asking for assistance when faced with problems.

GROWING PASSIONS
Ali went to college with the explicit intention of majoring in business and continuing his family’s business-
related tradition. However, he discovered a liking for environmental studies after taking an elective course
in it. As he learned more, Ali got more and more involved in campus sustainability programs. He started
community gardens, recycling campaigns, and eco-friendly living seminars. Ali surprised himself and
his family by switching his major to environmental science before the end of his first year in college. His
experience demonstrated the transformational power of education and the significant influence discovering
new hobbies can have on one’s course through life.
