               Dr. Philip Anthony Hamill
               Associate Provost, Student Success,
               Office of the Provost

        3. There are many new strategies in place now. What do you want students to reflect and achieve?

I would like students to reflect on their experience and ask themselves a number of questions: Did I acquire new
technological skills and engage in deeper learning from participating in distance learning? Did I have to solve problems
to make this project work for me? Did new assessment instruments help me develop graduate attributes including
working independently, teamwork and communication in a new environment? Why should a university have to
introduce lockdown browsers and online monitoring for assessment to ensure academic integrity to ensure the validity
of student performance? If all students are ethically and socially responsible would this be necessary?

        4. What would be your piece of advice to students trying to get used to these changing times in regard to
        learning?

Accept that where we are all at is the new norm which has thrown up new challenges for all of us. Subject specific
knowledge changes over time. Knowledge becomes outdated and has to be renewed. Transferable skills will support
you throughout your life and career. Consciously think about your recent experience and how you have improved your
technology skills, problem solving, critical thinking, and how you have had to be innovative and creative to solve some
of the challenges you have faced. Value these transferable skills and work hard to develop them now and in the future.
