Tips for Freshmen

Dear freshmen, these are some tips that will give you a head start on your bright journey at Abu
Dhabi University to ensure a smoother transition from high school to university.

Personal Tips:
• Always keep checking your university email on outlook.
• Always inquire about the thing you are unsure of.
• Do not ignore blackboard notifications.
• Always check your grades from student self-service.
• Concentrate on your grades.
• Do your work alone and do not depend on someone’s work.
• Get to know your professors.
• Follow your study plan.
• Get involved with your advisor.
• Focus on yourself.
• Learn from other students.

General Tips:
• Choose your major wisely.
• Be confident.
• Be honest.
• Follow the rules of academic integrity.
• Do not use someone’s work.
• Set a smart goal.
• Use templates to manage your time.
• Join events to earn more knowledge.
• Always attend your class.
• Choose a tutor if you face any academic difficulties.
• Apply for scholarships and financial aids.

Classroom Tips:
• Get to class early and prepare the materials needed.
• Take notes as it will help you focus more on the lecture.
• Do not be afraid to ask questions or for help/clarification.
• Do not be afraid to answer questions either, even if you think you may be wrong.
• Keep your desk clean and organized to avoid confusion.
• Remove any thing that can distract you e.g., the mobile phone.
• Get involved and participate during classes.
• Set timers and alarms to remind you of class time.
• Write reminders for assignments and test.
• Never miss a lecture intentionally.
