Welcome Note from
the Editorial Board
Dear Readers and Friends of the College,
September has arrived and the weather is starting to let up, with cooler nights chasing away the heat of
the day. This marks the beginning of the Fall semester and of a new academic year, but it is also the time
to reflect on the AY21-22’s harvest and celebrate its bounty. This previous year was full of achievements
and has been a year of transition, as we are all very hopeful that we are finally leaving the COVID pandemic
behind us. This was also an exciting time for our graduating students, with many of our talented students
celebrating their graduation on campus, after almost 2 years of online celebrations.
This year marked the growth of the College Of Health Sciences and its positioning nationally and internationally.
Our faculty led the development of many Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) with renowned companies
and universities in the different fields of health, providing membership, courses, internship and research
opportunities to our students, faculty, and staff. Our Health and Wellness Ambassadors supervised by our
faculty organized a series of events discussing a range of medical topics, featuring experts from different
health sectors in Abu Dhabi, promoting health and wellness for the community. We are pleased to report that
we are in the midst of several promising discussions with other universities internationally that we hope will
result in new global partnerships. Soon, students will embark to work on research projects with peers from
Canada and the USA. Our faculty through the GEP promoted international health collaboration, through their
work on COVID with our colleagues from Germany and Switzerland yielding publications in medical journals.
We are happy that our programs were reviewed and enhanced to be aligned with international accreditation
standards and the application for the Master of Public Health (MPH) program has been submitted to the
UAE’s Commission for Academic Accreditation (CAA). We are very proud of all that our students, staff, and
faculty accomplish and appreciate the recognition that comes their way. Achievements included receiving
internal ADU awards, research grants and promotions. Also, external research grants, international research
recognition and undergraduate research competition awards were received. Furthermore, the previous year
was decorated with field visits, participation in Dubai Expo 2020 and many on campus events.
We are thrilled to be covering the College’s activities in the second issue of the annual Magazine, which
represents the CoHS at Abu Dhabi University (ADU) and is the publication of the Media and Communication
Committee of the college. This issue presents an overview of the college, program and the body of faculty
and staff. It also focuses on the experimental, experiential, and co-curricular component of the programs
highlighting awareness events, webinars, conferences, faculty and student research and other achievements.
In addition, we include interviews with faculty, staff and alumni and provide scientific updates. We invite you
to check our website for more scientific news and COVID-related articles https://www.adu.ac.ae/en/covid-19/

For our graduating students; we are so proud of you all for what you have accomplished. We know that you
will go on to use the knowledge and skills you learned in the College to improve the health of our diverse
communities. We look forward to seeing you all at our alumni events. Congratulations to our 2022 graduates!
For all our reader friends and stakeholders, we hope you will all enjoy reading the issue and we wish you a
pleasant start to a new academic year!
