ADU Professional Development Certificate:

Assessment of Learning

The ADU Professional Development Certificate in Assessment of Learning aimed to equip
faculty with effective student assessment strategies crucial for higher education by enhancing
faculty’s ability to design valid assessments, analyze results, and contribute to continuous
improvement in higher education teaching.

The program covered assessment principles, emphasizing the construction and management
of formative and summative assessments, alongside peer assessment and feedback
techniques. Upon completion, faculty gained a critical understanding of assessment
design, alignment with course objectives, and factors influencing student performance.
The four modules introduced assessment terminology, curriculum mapping, planning and
implementation of assessments, and using assessment data for improvement.

Assignments included a reflective essay or assessment action plan and an assessment design
project aligning formative and summative assessments with course learning outcomes.

The certificate program was offered face-to-face on the Abu Dhabi Campus from 6 Jan 2023
to 27 January 2023 and on the Al Ain Campus parallelly from 13 January 2023 to 3 February
2023. On Dr Sreethi’s request, this certificate was specifically adapted for CAS faculty and
was offered on 28 April 2023, 12 May 2023, and 19 May 2023.
