1. This is my first semester at Abu Dhabi University, and I’m wondering if I have a mentor assigned to me
who can assist me in this new journey. How can I find out who my mentor is?

As a freshman at ADU, you will automatically be assigned a mentor, typically an upper-level student from
your college. Your mentor will add you to a Teams channel, where you can communicate throughout
the semester. Feel free to reach out to your mentor for support with any questions or concerns about
university life or your major.

2. What should I do if I’m finding a difficulty with a course?

If you’re struggling with a class, the Academic Success Center is here to support you. Our peer tutoring
program connects you with students who excelled in the course and volunteered to provide personalized
tutoring sessions tailored to your needs. They understand the material and can help you grasp challenging
concepts in a way that works for you.

3. How do I request a peer tutor?

You can use the ADUConnect platform to book a session with a tutor at a time that works for both of you:
ADUConnect: Academic Success Center. If you need further assistance with this process or have any
questions about booking a session, feel free to visit the ASC center anytime—the team will be happy to
assist you.

4. Is booking a tutoring session with a tutor free of charge or do I have to pay extra along with my tuition
fees?

The Peer Tutor Program is completely free of charge with the mission of providing free tutoring and
academic assistance to all ADU students. Through this program, you can find a tutor or become a tutor for
your fellow peers and earn community service hours.

5. How often are peer tutors available? Can I request a peer tutor at any time for different courses?

The availability of peer tutors is based on the peer tutor’s schedule. The peer tutor and tutee develop a
schedule convenient for both parties. Requesting a peer tutor can be done anytime a student feels they
need assistance with their courses. Most of the courses or subject areas have an appointed peer tutor. But
if a peer tutor cannot be found for a specific course, the Academic Tutors in the ASC will make every effort
to find or suggest alternative resources to help you.

6. If I use a peer tutor, does this reflect badly on my record?

No, working with a peer tutor means you recognize the need for academic assistance and are taking the
initiative to become a stronger student.
