Finding Balance:

Navigating My Roles at the Academic

Success Center and My Academics

After joining the Academic Success
Center (ASC), I embraced the
rewarding challenge of balancing
my academic responsibilities with
my role as a peer tutor. It gives me
great satisfaction to help other
students get beyond academic
obstacles, especially when I watch
them understand difficult ideas or
develop their study techniques. I
use an organized time management
strategy to efficiently manage my
responsibilities.

I make a weekly schedule, set out times for preparation and tutoring, and prioritize my academics. To
maximize my study time, I maintain my flexibility and modify my tutoring plan during busy periods. This
flexibility enables me to manage my academic priorities while balancing my position at the ASC. Tutoring
improves my everyday routine and inspires me to achieve academic success. In addition to benefiting my
peers, sharing study approaches like active learning and efficient notetaking helps me better understand
the subject matter myself. My own intellectual development has benefited greatly from this process of
reciprocal learning. Additionally, working at the ASC has created a network of support and meaningful
friendships. By promoting resilience and stressing that failures are a normal part of learning, I assist peers
in overcoming burnout. This role has honed my communication and leadership skills, enabling me to adapt
my teaching to the diverse needs of students.

For anyone considering joining the ASC, I wholeheartedly encourage you to do so. It’s a chance to discover
your own strength while helping others. Remember, your story can light the way for someone else, and
together, we can create an environment where everyone feels empowered to achieve their goals. There’s
immense satisfaction in seeing students succeed with your guidance, contributing to a culture of support
that transforms challenges into victories. The determination of my peers continues to inspire me as I
progress through my career at the ASC. Their commitment inspires me to pursue my own academic journey
and serves as a reminder of the value of support in the learning environment. Balancing tutoring with my
own studies has not only enhanced my performance but also deepened my commitment to helping others
achieve their academic goals. Through this experience, I’ve learned that teaching is a powerful form of
learning, shaping my approach to my studies and future aspirations.
